Preschool enrolment

There are a number of procedures and requirements for enrolment in a Department of Education preschool.

General guidelines

  • Department preschools enrol children for one year only, the year before they start school.
  • Children can enrol from the beginning of the school year if they turn four years of age on or before 31 July that year. Enrolment is offered in the following order:
  1. children living within the school's enrolment catchment area
  2. children living outside the school's enrolment catchment area and who have siblings enrolled in the school
  3. children living outside the school's enrolment catchment area
  • Offers of enrolment are made in keeping with the department's policy of targeting the most disadvantaged children in the local community – schools should give priority to Aboriginal children whose families experience disadvantage and to families experiencing financial hardship who are unable to access other children's services.

Australia Street Infants School Preschool enrolment procedures

Placement into the Australia Street Infants preschool is extremely competitive and we consistently receive more applications for enrolment than available places for children.

Applications for Preschool 2020 will open on the 29th April 2019 (first day of Term 2). To apply you will to fill in a Preschool waiting list application. You can pick one up in person from the school office or download.

This form must be handed in person to the school office from the 29th April 2019. Office hours are 8.30am - 3.30pm.

Please note that no email or early applications will be accepted.

To be considered for first round offers your form must be submitted by 31st July. We will continue to accept applications after this date, however they will not be considered for first round offers. First round offers will be notified on Monday 12th August 2019.

The preschool follows eligibility criteria set out in the Department's preschool enrolment procedures. First priority is given to children who live within the school's local area. If the number of applicants exceeds the places available, the school's placement panel will consider each application and make recommendations for placement according to the department's eligibility criteria and priority.
