Parents and citizens

The Australia Street Infants School Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) is a group of friendly parents, carers and citizens who work with the school to make it the best place it can be for our children.  The P&C is a great way to get involved in the school and community activities and everyone is welcome.

There are many different ways to get involved: come along to a meeting, a working bee, a P&C-organised event or volunteer to help at one of our many activities.  We look forward to seeing you at a meeting or at one of our events.

P&C meetings

P&C meetings give parents, carers and the school the opportunity to collaborate and share information.  We are always interested in discussing new ideas on how to support our school and build our community.

There is a standing open invitation to the entire school community to attend any P&C meeting.  Please come along as it is a great way to meet other parents and to find out first-hand what is happening around the school.

The P&C meets on the last Wednesday of the month during school terms at 7pm in the library.

Child-minding can be organised by the P&C in order for you to attend P&C meetings.  Parents and carers must reserve and book children in for child-minding at least 48 hours prior to the P&C meeting, to allow the P&C to confirm final numbers and arrange staff.  If you require child-minding please email: australiastpandc.exec@gmail.com

This is a free service offered by the P&C.

Join the P&C

All parents, carers and citizens are invited to join the P&C.  Parents, carers and citizens have to become a financial member of the P&C in order to vote at meetings.  Membership is $2 per annum and entitles you to vote at meetings.  Join us by completing a membership form (available from the school office) and delivering it to the school office together with the membership fee.

Memberships must be renewed every year. Your membership will become valid at the close of the meeting after you join. If you wish to make a proposal or vote at a meeting, you must lodge your membership form and pay your fee before the close of the previous meeting.

Events

The P&C organise various events throughout the year to promote the welfare and recreation of the students at the school.  These events include hosting a Welcome BBQ in Term 1 for new and current families, assisting the students to make Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day gifts for their carers, hosting morning tea for Grandfriends during Book Week, co-ordinating working bees at the school and holding parent talks on relevant parenting and education related topics.

Fundraising

We also hold a range of fundraising events throughout the year to raise money to purchase extra resources for the school.

Funded projects include:

  • active white boards
  • a school water tank
  • fans and blinds for the classrooms
  • home readers and literary magazines
  • sensory tools and resources
  • upgrading the teachers' break space
  • solar panels
  • playground upgrade
  • sound equipment
  • library furniture.
